Top Ten
This will be update as new shows make a successful bid for a top ten slot, though it seems unlikely that the number one position will ever be relinquished by the glorious Marimite.
1 - Maria-sama ga Miteru (both seasons)
Sheer class. I am a squeeing Marimite fanboy. Nothing more need be said.
2 - Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Haruhi can forcefully dress me in a maid costume any day. Er wait… I didn’t mean to type that. Great lead characters in Haruhi and Kyon, very funny, clever stuff.
3 - Ghost in the Shell 1st Gig
Intelligent SF = win.
4 - Serial Experiments Lain
As above. In fact, it was so intelligent I didn’t fully understand it (not that that’s saying a great deal). Or maybe it was just too obscure for its own good. Either way, a classic, despite sometimes being a little impenetrable.
5 - Ghost in the Shell 2nd Gig
I felt the second season was a little weaker than the first so Lain beats it to 4th place.
6 - Blood+
Decent pseudo-vampire action. Never blew my mind, but sustaining a fifty-plus episode run without ever being less than solid counts for something.
7 - 100 Stories
Grotesque horror fun.
8 - Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
Atmospheric horror fun. Unfortunately it started to drag and didn’t quite live up to early promise.
9 - Gunslinger Girl
Stylish stuff with a somewhat disturbing setting that, fortunately, it addresses without flinching.
10 - Ginban Kaleidoscope
Light and fluffy shoujo fun with a lovely touching ending.
